The Social Plastic piece consisted of gas-filled balloons handed out to the audience. In addition to the hallucinating effect of the laughing gas, the mere presence of the balloons generated a pleasant social buzz reminiscent of a children's birthday party - a joyous atmosphere where strangers would start talking to one another.
